The crisis of our ecosystem is a crisis of human relationships, the result of false assumptions about reality: that greed and domination are the inherent driving forces of human existence, and therefore, that warfare, conquest, enslavement, exploitation, the looting of other people and of the entire ecosystem, are natural and inevitable. Ecological justice is the understanding that the extreme peril facing our biosphere can only be resolved by changing how humans treat each other. That our only viable option is to replace extractive economies based on inequality with societies of reciprocity, respect and mutual care that would meet the needs of all.
